History of C Language

C is a popular high-level programming language. It was developed by Dennise Ritchie at AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1972. C language was derived from an earlier programming language called B. The B was developed by Ken Thompson in 1969-70. It provided the basis of the development of C. The C language was originally designed to write system programs under UNIX operating system. The power and flexibility of the C language made it popular in the industry for a wide range of applications.
The earlier version of C was known as K&R (Kernighan & Ritchie) C. The American National Standard Institute (ANSI) developed a standard version of the language. The standard version is known as ANSI C. This new version provided many features that were not available in the older version.
